I actually like this slower shift because it gives Ryla a lot more depth, are these school and family moments going to tie back into the main story later?

For now, no. But it gives her more of a backstory and kinda gives a reason behind how she acts, such as her mom judges her for different things makes her judge people more, her hatred towards her sister projecting on Veretis because both of them seem perfect to her. And yes, Veretis will be back in one of the later chapters where he gives a speech about the heroes after they get broadcasted on TV as the heroes of Smilestown.

@S, That makes a lot of sense. I actually like seeing the reasons behind a character's behavior instead of it just being there for no explanation. Knowing how Ryla's home life shapes the way she sees other people makes her feel much more believable. And I'm definitely looking forward to Veretis returning, that speech sounds like it'll be an interesting moment.
Btw, I was thinking of some interesting concepts for your story. Wanna hear them?
