The detail of the soldiers severing his pinky and tossing it onto the frozen sea, only for Ivan to wake up in a dream within a dream, and then realize he can't feel the cold at all - that's the kind of horror that makes you question what's real and what's an illusion.

The part where Ivan realizes he can't feel the cold literally sent chills down MY spine. The way reality kept slipping through his fingers had me reading with my hand over my mouth the whole time. And that note on the frozen ground, "when the ice melts, the true world shall be revealed" This story has me absolutely hooked!
