The way Tooshiro's internal panic at every message from Fumiko is so relatable, and the café scene where she casually drops "the gods' absence creates a better wound" while stirring her latte - you can feel him falling for her in real time, and the fact that she's falling for his book and his fake author persona at the same time is beautifully complicated.

My favorite part is that moment in the café when Fumiko starts talking about the gods leaving and you can feel her passion break through her “quiet, careful” persona. The way she turns analysis into real emotion, and Tooshiro just gets pulled along by it, made my heart go full book-nerd mode.

Nothing says healthy author-reader boundaries like discussing your own secret book while pretending to be the friend of the author. Flawless plan.
