He was outside on the patio, under the soft moonlight. A small white wicker chair sat in the corner, pressed into the floor, leaving scuff marks as it creaked and squeaked.
Next to it stood a rickety table, tall and thin, with metal legs like needles, exuding the sharp scent of zinc.
A leather pouch of cigarettes, brown and aging, with a copper button, sat on the table, its peeling edges revealing years of use. Next to it, a wooden ashtray sat off-center, ash spilled across its wavy surface and onto the ground.
The patio window, nearly rectangular, curved at its edges, unveiled a view of the night sky—stars glittering in untouched darkness, beyond the reach of city lights.
The cold, end-of-the-night air carries something mystical and omniscient. The stars hold their bright places in the early darkness, as the brisk air lingers and the dreamers sleep until morning light.
Starlight glows over the shining hills, a glowing green aura under soft light. Silvered autumn colors rest upon tall, bushy oaks.
The branches of the trees hang low, frosting their leaves with ice, until the warmth of day.
Wearing blue jeans, I kneel in the fresh-cut grass, the moon a statue of worship as I meditate beneath its glow.
Nestled in homes, the hilltop neighborhood overlooks the valley, the dark blue sky dazing the scene, holding the horizon in its vast embrace.
The vast embrace of the night is upon us—its rejuvenating cold carried on a blowing breeze. The dogs roam like guards, following scents in the flowing swishes.
A final chair on the pavement, cement bathed in light, tracing the freezing patches of air amidst the chilling shades.
Beneath open skies, stars float and flicker, soaking in radiant energy. I found the magick in nature—and never let it go.
