"Do you mind?" he said, offering a hand to her. The rest of us watched him, wondering what he was doing. "You had a connection with Viraa established, unfortunately, she's gone now, and you have yet to establish one with a representative of the Chimera Crest. In the upcoming days, it would behoove us all to have a proper way of communication, don't you agree?"
"I suppose you're right," Raina said as she didn't hesitate to grab his hand and exchange energy with him.
"What makes you think that you're our representative?" Za'Fia objected.
Wren and Trevor looked as if they were about to object to her objection, but remained silent.
"Our poor Alissia doesn't care for bureaucracy. I've chosen to take on that responsibility myself. It's for the best."
"Our?" Michael stated with a surprising level of protest, stepping toward Avarice, who watched with smug amusement. "You are not part of our group to represent us."
"I agree," Naomi said, looking at Raina and Meira. "If anyone, our representative is Michael, not Avarice."
"Noted," Raina said, witnessing the distrust in part of the group.
Tymon glared at Avarice, who smiled coyly at him.
"You knew we wouldn't approve of this. Yet you tried anyway," Tymon said to him seriously. "This wasn't done just to have us establish who our representative is officially...what are you up to?"
"Perhaps I wanted to nudge you all in the right direction. Your group isn't well established, especially for the responsibilities that Alissia now holds. Not to mention, I am helping you al spare a world from self-destruction...," he said, then casually opened a hand revealing a ball of solid gold in it.
"Of course, not without getting something in return, though." The golden orb suddenly vanished and was replaced with a broken tile from the floor. That tile was then dismantled into a small mass of its material before resolidifying as a miniature figure of Avarice.
"Is that..." Raina looked at him in disbelief.
"So that's why you traded energy with her. This was your real motive," Tymon said, unsurprised.
"You copied her cintracy? I thought your body could only hold four cintracies," I felt disappointed in myself for allowing this to happen. To think that I let him get his hands on a divine cintracy.
"Turns out this evolution of ours has revealed my true limit is five cintracies," Avarice grinned, sending out a wave that changed the shape of the area around him. Luckily, from the looks of it, he couldn't tap into the true power of the cintracy like Raina could. But honestly, even with the base level of its capabilities, in his hands...
"This violation won't go unanswered. Once the matters at hand are dealt with and I've assured the safety of everyone, you will answer to me for your deception," Raina told him, but his arrogant expression revealed he didn't feel the least bit concerned about it. "For the time being, Meira, are you ready?"
"Yes," Meira replied. "I have separate dimensions, or as I like to call them, sanctuaries, on each planet that I have personally visited. I often use them so that Raina and other world leaders can safely meet in discretion."
"These," she referenced to a white dot on the back of Raina's hand, "will allow you all entrance to my sanctuary on the planets you all are sent to."
Meira placed her index finger on the back of my hand and charged it with her energy until a white, glowing dot was left behind. She then did the same to the others, but I told her not to give Avarice one.
"A convenient power. Perhaps I should've copied your power," Avarice remarked as he looked at the dot on my hand.
"Okay, so remember the plan, guys," I stated. "We get to where we're going, find someone who can train us, and bring them into Meira's sanctuary, where we can optimize the amount of time we can train."
"I've adjusted the sanctuaries to indicate how much time you have left before the two days outside are over," Meira input.
"Before you all leave, be warned," Raina added. "We haven't had the time to communicate with the representatives of the worlds you are heading to, so you are entering their worlds unofficially. It isn't necessarily illegal to do so; however, it can make the process more complicated, so try to avoid any trouble."
"Speaking of which," Meira looked at Alissia. "Do you know where you want everyone to be sent?"
"I do," I said before telling her what places I had in mind.
"You know, unless you're a zasshu, it's pointless to learn from outside species since we inherently can't utilize their native abilities, just like they can't be born with cintracies or use spirit energy," Meira told me. "You sure you don't want to find people here to help them?"
"To be honest, I'm a little skeptical too, but Viraa had a hunch that this is the best path to evolve our powers."
"Well, you all do have a particularly special bloodline...," Meira muttered to herself.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Michael asked.
Raina and I looked at Meira, who quickly corrected herself.
"What I meant by that was that you all are unique in the sense that Viraa created you. Perhaps you being born that way makes you an exception to the typical biological rules the rest of us live by," Meira said half truthfully.
Being such a trusting guy, Michael seemed to believe her, thankfully.
Avarice raised a curious eyebrow, noticing our secrecy, but strangely enough, chose to remain quiet about it. So did Tymon, who likely respected my reasons.
Before all went our separate ways, I noticed Michael's aura of emotions was a swirl of light violet and yellow as he glanced at Avarice. Despite the colors, it wasn't deceit or curiosity I felt from him. It was distrust.
When he noticed me looking, he spoke up.
"You being stuck alone with him, are you sure that's the wisest decision?" he asked, expressing concern for me.
Avarice knitted his eyebrow in quick confusion before realizing what was going on, then grinned mischievously.
"Relax," he said slickly as he stepped closer to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Alissia's strong now – the second most powerful being on the planet behind Aeric. She doesn't need you looking after her like she's a helpless human."
The irises of Michael's eyes glowed yellow-white, and his power flared slightly as he clenched his jaw while glaring at Avarice. In the blink of an eye, he stood before us, gripping Avarice's wrist to force it away.
Damien smirked as he observed Michael from a distance. Apparently, he found what was happening amusing. I heard him mutter about something "finally breaking the surface."
"You're out of your league, don't you think?" Avarice said, the irises of his eyes glowing golden as some of his power flared too.
"We don't trust him either, but you're being strangely adamant about this, aren't you?" Za'Fia said, placing a hand on Michael's shoulder to calm him down.
"It almost looks like he has a thing for Alissia," Naomi joked, but Michael stiffened and remained silent. Suddenly, his heart's emotional aura converted to orange and pink, giving off a sense of pride and love when his glance shifted toward me.
"Oh...," I said, at a loss for words.
Arne was the only one who didn't seem to sense the awkward atmosphere. She approached Michael and placed a firm hand on him.
"I'm sure she appreciates your concern, but this isn't the time for this," she said, getting us back on track.
"Ahem," I cleared my throat. "Right. It's okay, really," I told him, softer than I anticipated.
Changing the subject quickly warned Michael, Tymon, and Za'Fia to be especially careful while they're on the worlds they were heading to.
After that, we let Meira instruct us on how to use the "key" she gave us. We each extended the hand with the white dot on it. Then a rift to other worlds opened before us. Above the rifts, Meira thought it'd be helpful to have it written out for us to know where the rift led before they step through.
Tymon and Naomi were the first to step through their rift, which led to Planet Sona of the Night System. Michael stepped through to Planet Gleme of the Star System. Za'Fia was next, stepping through to Planet Calci of the Infernal System. Trevor stepped through his rift, which led to Planet Nuuc of the Neutral Corp. Damien entered his rift, which led him to Cindar's Storm Moon, Raiu, while Arne was sent to Cindar's Neta Moon, Gaia.
Aside from Avarice and me, Wren was the only one left.
"What about me?" she exclaimed.
"The teachers you need are a lot closer to home," Avarice told her, cutting me off. "There are a handful of klevonians in Forgeton who can use multiple elements like you. They're the Titan Generals of the Klevonian Army. I'm sharing the location with you. Go there, and I'm sure they can help you master your elements."
Wren glanced at me apologetically on her dad's behalf, and I nodded for her to do as he said. Meira opened a rift labeled SE Cindar and told her that it'd take her to a vacant area within the Klevonian Army's territory. From there, she'll have to find her own way.
As Wren stepped through the rift, I smiled proudly at her. Having absorbed Viraa's memories, I knew the results of each of their training already. It was unclear how everyone achieved their evolutions, but I saw why Viraa placed so much hope in them.
"What about you two?" Meira asked.
"Hm. Viraa didn't think of a place for us to hone our abilities."
Avarice looked at me in disappointment, then sighed.
"You haven't figured it out? She wants you to come to the conclusion on your own. She can't hold your hand all the time."
"That definitely sounds like her," I agreed, giving it some thought. "Hm. Okay, so she had a specific place in mind for each of us. Which means it can't be somewhere I haven't familiarized myself with enough yet..."
Then it dawned on me that each of us who remained in the Astral System still had a place thought of. Wren would be with the Klevonian Army, but Damien and Arne were each on one of Cindar's moo—
"The Prison Moon!" I exclaimed. "Interacting with the bansedai is bound to teach us something."
"Congratulations," Avarice said condescendingly. "Care to open the rift for us then?"
"I mean, it's a prison. Are we even allowed to just go there?" I asked skeptically.
"Not without the Ryfi Theos or Ryfa Pakt's authorization," Raina stated with a playful pause before continuing, "which you now have. Seeing as you're now the most powerful being on the planet apart from Aeric, isn't trying to usurp the throne from me, and want to help keep the peace of our world, it's the most we can do."
"Some of the bansedai can be difficult to engage with in today's time, but, seeing as they're from an era that was filled with interplanetary battles, they should be able to give you excellent advice on how to control your powers," Meira stated.
As I extended my hand and opened a rift, Avarice was clearly intrigued by getting the chance to meet the oldest pneumarians still alive.
Before leaving, though, I turned to Raina.
"Can you keep your forces from acting against the Klevonian Army? Once we get back, I can explain things properly, but for now, try to avoid fighting for as long as possible."
"I'll hold you to that. I'm expecting a full explanation of what's going on," Raina acquiesced. "However, there are many who are restless since their children have been taken, so I do not know how long even my words can assuage them."
I exhaled deeply, praying we'd be back before anything happened.
Once Avarice and I were gone, Meira turned to Raina expectantly.
"What now?" Meira asked as she deactivated the dimension she set in the Judgment Hall.
Raina looked down at Fuse's unconscious body.
"First, you'll eject him somewhere far from here," she ordered as she telepathically summoned her Commanders to convene. "Then you'll join the rest of the Commanders and me. I trust Viraa, but if we're expecting something to happen in two days, it's time we prepare for war."
