Queen Morwenna dabbed the corners of her eyes with the edge of her handkerchief.
Virelai stood on the right side of the altar in the castle’s chapel, just barely holding the hands of the prince she was betrothed to, looking down at her feet.
The officiant cleared his throat and inhaled deeply before continuing his speech, his voice flat and husky.
“By the power vested in me I now pronounce you man and wi-”
The large, wooden doors of the chapel burst open with a loud, resonating bam.
“I OBJECT!”
Virelai’s head snapped up, promptly dropping Iarlaith’s hands.
Philomath covered her mouth.
“Dear Mogshade…”
She murmured.
“Who in the name of-!”
King Thadewin shouted, his face vibrantly flushed scarlet.
Morwenna narrowed her eyes, a sharp, burning flame raged behind her dark irises.
“Leveret…”
She snarled, her eyes locking onto her son in the doorway.
Leveret’s eyes were wide and his breath ragged as he adjusted his crown on his head.
He smiled softly at his sister before laying eyes on his mother, his face hardening.
The queen stood up, swiftly striding over to the prince and grabbing him roughly by his shirt, slamming the door behind her as she dragged him out.
“How dare you! Sabotaging the wedding! You are a disgrace!”
Morwenna hissed to Leveret.35Please respect copyright.PENANAKPxQ9ED07i
“Mother- Ah! Mother, please! She does not want to marry him!”
Leveret grunted, the heels of his shoes grinding into the stone floor.35Please respect copyright.PENANAS0bNsWCLN9
“But I want her to marry him. I am the queen! She shall marry whomever I choose!”
The queen dictated.35Please respect copyright.PENANAOtnmkfLQFY

His mother snapped, releasing him with a shove.
He stumbled forward with a gasp and a hoarse cough.
“Remove thyself from my presence, insolent child.”
She demanded in a harsh bark.35Please respect copyright.PENANAfB4ufNU4eE
“Mother! Listen to me, for the love of Mogshade!”
He begged, glancing over his shoulder at her.35Please respect copyright.PENANAbfJejST3w3

“Get out of my castle!”
She growled.
“Mother-”

“NOW!”
She bellowed, jabbing her finger at the entrance to the castle.
He paused for a moment to catch his breath before shaking his head.
“Cancel the wedding… then we may discuss this.”
Morwenna inhaled deeply and exhaled shakily.
“Gaurds!”35Please respect copyright.PENANAbxJ3kxeAh6
Morwenna bellowed.
“Get this treasonous rebel out of my castle!”
Two tall, able-bodied men marched over as if in a trance, seizing the young Prince firmly by his bony shoulders.
“Wha- MOTHER!”
Leveret shouted, his crown falling over his eyes as he was dragged towards the door.
Morwenna stiffened before turning around and striding back towards the chapel with her head held high.
She opened the door again and entered the chapel with a wide smile plastered on her face, her son’s yelps echoing down the hall.
“Now! Where were we?”
