"I'm done being charged with these kids Nolan." "Well don't blame me, it's Seraphina you have to take this up with!" Nolan replied with a tone of indifference in his voice, "Yeah well I'm not happy about it, ill do it but this is the last one okay!" "Whatever makes you happy violet, nice hair by the way." Nolan said slightly muffled as he was taking a bag out of the back seat of his light blue 2021 Porsche Taycan he then handed it to Violet Got in his driver's seat closed the door and as he drove away called back, "Be careful with that one he's a flight risk!" and as Violet turned to see where the kid had gone he was on her motorbike a 1984 Harley XR1000 kicking up the brake clipping on the dark glossy black full face helmet and sped away in seconds. At least he put on the helmet violet though before realizing she now needed to chase the kid to take him back to her place before he had to go to school the next morning.
There wasn't much in this town centre where the drop off point had been set up other than the land marker which was a clock tower and a fountain.
Opening the bag and rifling through it violet found clothes, some books and a pocket watch "perfect!" she exclaimed. Checking around to see if anyone was looking, Violet took the watch, opened it to the clock face, waved her hand in a circular motion above it and muttered, "Heart that held this watch in time, Turn your hand and answer mine." a purple shimmering mist spilled around concealing it and when that cleared the clock hands were facing the direction he had ridden.
The day was turning from perfect blue sky to over cast and gloomy as violet didn't want to be looking all night she zipped up the leather duffle bag swung it over her shoulder took her silver aviator sunglasses from where they were hung on her deep red tank top in the middle of her chest placed them on her nose and set off at a brisk walk.
Nolan must have thought it really funny that she was now aimlessly running around London after this kid, it was a running joke that she had no people skills and yet could still straighten out a kid no problem. To Violet People were a waste of time and in her line of work sometimes they didn't come back so less friends the better.
When she hit a fork in the straight road she had been following, Violet checked the watch again to see it pointing east so she took the right road and at every side road she came across she double checked the watch to make sure she wasn't going in the wrong direction. It finally led to this sketchy part of town and Violet was glad she had worn her biker jacket and the bullet proof vest Cora was always insisting she wore for safety.
It was like this place was in a different world; everything was extremely dark and unclean. Unlike the streets she had been jogging through which were right out of a magazine, the faint feeling she was being watched was extremely unsettling. Glancing one more time at the watch which pointed into a seemingly abandoned building Violet stored it in the inside pocket with her phone and earphones, she then tightened her grip on the bag Handel and pushed open the door it made this awful creaking sound as she slipped inside.
The entry way had white tiled flooring which made every step in her boots sound squeaky, the walls were a sickening mint green colour with dark brown oak wood skirting boards and a matching dado railing. The stairs were carpeted down the middle with a polished wooden banister and everything was begging to smell faintly of cigarette smoke and alcohol which was not at all appealing. The lighting was flickery and yellow right out of a horror movie. Violet walked up the stairs cautiously thinking to herself if this were a horror movie people would have been yelling at the TV saying, “why would you have gone in that scary abandoned building are you crazy!”
Straining her ears for any sound but every floor she came too seemed deserted with the stained red carpet and no lighting until she reached the 9th floor which had stains running down the walls and there were voices carrying through the hall as she walked to the end most of the doors were wide open or hanging of the hinges but there was this one door which was closed and as violet pushed against it it was locked, she pressed her ear against the key hole and there were definitely people inside three males roughly sixteen to eighteen and five females fifteen to seventeen.
Violet had options now either she could go about this calmly and rationally or she could burst in demand her bike back and forcefully take the kid home, deciding that he would probably see her as a push over or weak if she asked politely so Violet went with the latter she held the gold coloured door knob and whispered, “What was shut, now open wide; let no hidden latch abide.” The door knob was encased in a grainy red mist and with a turn of her wrist the door unlocked with a click and violet walked strongly inside. As she slammed the door behind her every one inside looked startled and upon seeing violet standing there the girls peeled away from the boys and stood up abruptly. “Good news, Hale. I found you. Bad news, Hale. I found you.” Violet said, chucking the bag at his feet and smiled. The room had peeling 1970s wallpaper covered in dust and cobwebs, the floor was blue carpeted and they had been sitting on three small gray sofas which had seen better days clearly scratched up by stray cats and they were watching some old cartoon on a 1970s box TV. The two boys who weren't Hale put out their cigarettes and looked at violet menacingly which might have scared a normal person but she could take care of herself. "Go home girls." Violet said sternly. With no second look they climb one by on out the smashed window and disappeared. "You track me here and then make my girls leave I knew you wouldn't be cool." Hale frowned, rolling his eyes, "You took my motorbike!" Violet sniped back "You tracked me here because of a bike?" he smirked "No Hale I tracked you because you took off. Taking my bike just made it personal!" Violet said matter of factly forcing down her annoyance,"I only borrowed it!" Hale scoffed defensively, “You think you're all that with those two around and also this place it's a horrible hideout if this is where you spend your time no wonder the girls didn't argue about staying, or was that just because they finally had an excuse to leave you." Violet snorted, now wandering over to the window and looking down into the alley way below. Her bike was sitting in roughly the same condition she had been taken in. "We are leaving so get your bag I won't ask again." Violet demanded. Hale rolled his eyes and clearly thinking he was funny, said, "Make me!" Violet finding no humor in it marched right up to him picked him up of the sofa to uproar from the other two guys, took the hand cuffs from her back pocket and cuffed his wrists together picked up the bag and forced him out the door down the stairs and into the street she then pulled him around the corner where she found the alley he had parked her bike clipped the helmet on his head and rode off.
It took an hour longer than it would have been from the town square to get home and they had to stop at a station to fill it up with petrol because it was running low. When they pulled up to her block of flats and she parked up Hale he was clearly more annoyed than ever which made him snippy and he said "I would have thought someone of your degree would have somewhere better to live or do they not pay you enough at the organization you work for. Seraphina cutting your wages too?" Violet didn't indulge his remarks, yanked off the helmet and dragged him to the door she punched in the code more violently than she intended. The door opened with a buzz and the chemical smell of cleaning supplies hit them. She took to the stairs holding tight to his hand cuffs up to the sixth floor. She opened the first door down the right corridor into her flat. It wasn't much the living room to the immediate right with the bedroom door and bathroom door closed and two the left the kitchen and the office which had a murphy bed pulled down next to the desk book shelves everywhere and a small tv. Violet pointed to the bathroom and the office and said, "Bathroom there, there is a toilet shower and sink and in the office there is a desk for you to do school work and a bed to sleep in eat anything out of the fridge the tap in the kitchen leaks so make sure you turn the handle all the way so you don't waist water and the tv has some channels but the dvd player works so take your pick I have multiple DVDs." Violet then locked the door, put on the chain, unlocked his hand cuffs and dumped his bag at the door to the office. She dropped her helmet on the table behind the sofa and then went into the bathroom and took a speedy shower before changing into her comfy flannel shirt and pajama shorts with fluffy slippers.
For dinner violet peeled potatoes which she boiled and mashed them with some butter and milk, she cooked four small chicken breasts she dished up half the mash into a bowl cut up two of the chicken pieces and chucked the chunks on top grinded some pepper and hit a table spoon full of branston pickle in mixed it together creating her comfort meal violet then knocked on the door of the office said, “There is mash and chicken if you want some in the kitchen help yourself.” Violet grabbed shredded cheese and went to the living room turned on the tv and listened to the news report while she ate her food, Finding it extremely Boring she turned the dial she had had Cora her best friend implanted in the back of the TV, there was a fuzzy static sound and the Chanel had changed. When Violet went back to the sofa to continue her meal she had caught the beginning of the inter realm broadcastings news show, "Good Evening everyone and welcome to IRB infer realm broadcasting live with Julian Stirling with tonight's top stories," the presenter said cheerily as he went on to talk about magical disturbances and cosmos interruptions. "You actually watch that crap seriously you just get less and less cool," Hale called from the kitchen as he had clearly snuck out to get food. "Dont worry Hale in won't make you watch it." Violet called back. "My name is Wes you don't have to call me by my last name forever." he said as he disappeared back into the office.
Violet finished her food washed up, turned the dial back to normal channels and turned off the TV she then called out, "You should get some sleep you are going to school tomorrow no matter if you want to or not." She waited to hear no reply and so she turned in for the night crashing in her warm cozy bed.
