Chapter 30: Tier-2 Zombie
After eating and drinking their fill, the three shouldered their backpacks and stood.
Nearby, Wang Yuehao's group watched them rise and collectively tensed-terrified of another beating.
But Yang Bin's crew couldn't be bothered to spare them a glance.
"Bin-ge, how do we get out?" Hu Wenliang asked.
"Check the back. I remember this place has a rear exit. Let's see how many zombies are hanging around."
"Got it."
The three headed toward the back of the supermarket.
Sure, it was comfortable in here-food, water, shelter. But they understood clearly: comfort was for the dead.
Zombies were evolving. If they didn't keep up, extinction was all that waited.
Before long, they found the rear door. Yang Bin activated his True Vision Eye and scanned outside. There were some zombies, but not many. With their current strength, punching through wouldn't be a problem.
The door was locked. Yang Bin pried it open without effort and pushed it wide.
The noise drew several nearby zombies immediately.
They shrieked and charged. The three moved in unison, dropping them fast.
"Move. The others heard that-more are coming."
"Right."
Chen Hao and Hu Wenliang nodded, and the three sprinted away.
Whether intentional or not, Yang Bin didn't close the door behind them. He left it wide open.
Once they were gone, the survivors inside the supermarket let out a collective breath.
Yang Bin's presence had been suffocating. Nearly twenty people, and they still couldn't match three fighters. Several of their guys still hadn't gotten back up.
A few men helped Wang Yuehao with basic treatment below the waist. No pharmacy, no medicine-just a rough bandage job.
But looking at the mangled mess between his legs, every man present shuddered involuntarily. Absolutely brutal. China had just gained another eunuch.
This kind of damage? Forget the apocalypse-even modern medicine before all this couldn't fix it. Not without a prosthetic.
"Slap!"
Staring down at his ruined body, Wang Yuehao cracked Liu Shiya across the face.
"You stupid bitch. This is all your fault!"
"You-" Liu Shiya clutched her cheek, staring at him in disbelief.
She never imagined he'd blame her for this.
"Slap."
Another one.
"The hell are you staring at? If I'm crippled, don't think for a second you'll have it easy!"
The gentleman act was over. Wang Yuehao had reverted completely to his true self.
His dick was gone. What was the point of pretending?
Blood seeped from the corner of Liu Shiya's mouth. Those slaps carried real force.
Seeing the raw disgust in his eyes, she lowered her head and said nothing.
For the first time, regret crept in. She'd thrown away a man who'd cared for her wholeheartedly for three years-for this.
"Sooner or later, I'll kill every one of them!" Wang Yuehao snarled.
Then-noise from the back.
Wang Yuehao shut his mouth instantly, thinking Yang Bin had returned.
Two figures emerged from the rear corridor.
The group's faces went white.
"Zombies!"
"How the hell did zombies get in?!"
"The back door-it's open!"
The zombies spotted the crowd and surged forward, frenzied with excitement.
People scrambled for steel pipes, swinging wildly.
But more kept pouring in. One after another. The already-injured group was slowly swallowed by the tide of corpses...
---
Yang Bin's trio moved toward the cafeteria.
They needed Special Zombies. The cafeteria had the highest concentration on campus-best odds of finding what they were looking for.
Zombies appeared constantly along the way. Even with Yang Bin steering them clear of the worst clusters, plenty were unavoidable.
Over thirty thousand students had attended this school. At least twenty-seven or twenty-eight thousand were now zombies. You couldn't walk ten meters without running into one.
Without the True Vision Eye, going outside at all would be suicide.
They reached the area near the cafeteria and stopped. All three sucked in a sharp breath at the sight.
"Holy shit. That's several thousand at least." Hu Wenliang swallowed hard.
"The people inside... they're completely trapped." Chen Hao's jaw hung open.
"Lesson learned," Yang Bin said quietly. "Stay far away from anywhere crowds gathered."
Both nodded.
Yang Bin activated his True Vision Eye and swept the horde. His expression shifted.
"What is it, Bin-ge?" Chen Hao asked.
"There are roughly a hundred Special Zombies mixed in there." Yang Bin's voice was low and tight.
"A hundred?!" Both of them stared.
"The number's gone up. Clearly." Yang Bin paused. "And there's one that's... different."
"Different how?"
"Every other Special Zombie has a crystal the size of a grain of rice. This one's crystal is the size of a mung bean."
"There are different levels of Special Zombies?"
"First time I've seen it." Yang Bin's jaw tightened. "If I had to guess-the ones we've been killing are Tier-1 Zombies. This thing is probably a Tier-2 Zombie."
"Meaning it's stronger?" Their eyes went wide.
"Definitely." Yang Bin nodded, a weight settling in his chest.
He'd thought his current strength was enough to handle zombies without pressure. He hadn't expected something above Tier-1 to already exist.
"They're evolving nonstop," he said, frowning. "Ordinary zombies become Tier-1. Tier-1 become Tier-2. If humans just keep hiding... extinction is inevitable."
"Should we put the word out about the crystals?" Chen Hao asked.
Yang Bin considered it. "Eventually, yes. If we don't, humanity's finished. But we shouldn't be the ones to announce it. That kind of attention brings nothing but trouble."
He glanced toward the distant skyline. "The military's probably been clearing zombies for days now. Heavy weapons make short work of regular ones. Chances are they've already found the crystals themselves.
Let's wait. Better if it comes from the authorities."
"Makes sense. So... do we still fight here?"
"Fight what? Thousands of zombies and a Tier-2 in the middle? We're changing locations. This place is a death trap."
"Yeah. Fair."
The three pulled back quickly.
---
Inside the cafeteria.
"Porridge again?! How is this supposed to fill anyone up? I want actual rice!"
"Every single day it's porridge-are you trying to starve us?!"
Complaints erupted again. People were genuinely hungry.
"Don't want it? Hand it over. Quit whining-if you've got the guts, go find food outside yourself." Someone shot back.
"Exactly. Be grateful you're eating at all. Do you not understand what's happening? Still think you're living your pampered little life?"
"You're born to eat porridge, is that it? The school has food-they're just hoarding it! If we don't push back, we'll never get full!"
"There are zombies everywhere outside. Even if there's food, we need to ration it. Nobody knows when rescue is coming."
"At this rate, we'll starve before anyone shows up."
Two factions. Endless arguing. The Principal watched from the side, his frown deepening.
Three days. It had only been three days since the world ended, and things were already this bad. What would happen in a week?
To his credit, this Principal was a responsible man. When everything collapsed, his first thought had been these students-afraid they'd go hungry, he'd organized the cafeteria gathering himself.
But human desire never knows when to stop.
