I pulled up my bandana over my nose to cover my identity repositioned my goggles and cap as the wandering searchlights were visible at the end of the street. The hawks may be an improvement, but there is room for flaws if you know how they function. Since I'm not so nimble like any sportsman, I will need a little help getting in and out, called a distraction. I ignited one firework bomb and threw it as far as I could in a nearby alley. Immediately I sprinted to the other side of the facility and waited until all hawks and guards had wandered towards the bomb. Fireworks whistled and boomed loudly in that alley. Quickly I pulled out my grappling hook with rope and swung it over the wall. I pulled the rope, checked if it held my weight, climbed the wall, and I was already in, nearly out of breath, but there was no time for rest and paced off towards the ground floor to the depot heap. As I reached the mound, the searchlights, hawks and guards were still focused on the firework bomb. I pulled out from my waistcoat pocket my stopwatch and started the time. I have now 30 minutes until they begin to notice me. Why 30 minutes? The security focuses on what is outside the depot to prevent thieves like me from entering, and secondly, they doubt that anyone would come to steal since the hawks are floating about. What about me? Suddenly, I felt a gentle shove in my bag and out flew Buzzer. "Buzzer!" I hissed. "What part of staying home do you not understand? This is dangerous!"
Buzzer flew to a few metal pieces in front of me and pushed them aside. He then turned to me and gave me a soft "peep".
I blinked at his message he tried to bring over. "You want to help me?"
Buzzer nodded wildly, so wild that he almost got dizzy.
I chuckled. "Alright, but keep your wits about. Oh, and help yourself if you're hungry, but first, show it before eating it. Anything thin and large, that is."
Buzzer flew to me and friendly rubbed my cheek with his head. From there on, we continued on our search and found two pieces of metal that would do nicely for my machine while Buzzer munched on smaller scraps. I checked my stopwatch while catching my breath and spotted it was nearly time to leave. "Pst! Buzzer! It's time to go." I whispered to him. There was no reply nor Buzzer in sight. "Buzzer!" "Peep, peep." Called Buzzer silently from among the heap. Thanks to his bluish light, I found him resting on rusty round-shaped metal. It looked too good to land here, and it is fastened with cog shaped screws. They look brand new with barely any scratches, strange. I removed a few metal scraps aside and noticed a tube, there are hinges on one side connected to the lid, and it's slightly open. The smoke of wooden fire emitted from it, pleasant smell but unusual for a city and above all from a scrap metal heap. Besides the scent, I heard someone working on something with metal and talking to themselves; it's a man.
Buzzer gave a silent "peep" as he flew closer to the gap of the lid. "Don't!" I hissed at him, but it was too late; he flew in and followed the tube. "Damnit", I cursed under my breath and hit with a fist against the pipe. I winced to its heat and waved my hand in the air to cool.
Suddenly I found Buzzer flying towards me from one end of the heap. I paced up to him. "How did you get out?"
Buzzer excitedly gave "peep, peep, peep" and flew back from where he came.
"Halt! Who goes there?" Boomed a firm voice of a guard from a nearby watchtower. Without hesitation, I sprinted after Buzzer. Soon spotted a door ajar, covered in metal scraps. Buzzer flew, and I followed, immediately closed the door behind me and hoped they knew nothing of this door. I sighed, relieved and took a moment to catch my breath. The same voice I've heard before continued to mutter and work on his machine. I spotted a shadow moving on the metal-plated wall, and the short tunnel before me turned half a circle towards the fireplace and the mysterious mechanic. Buzzer hid under my bandana by the shoulder as I approached closer to the warm light of the fire since he hadn't noticed my presence, and I was in the shadows. I halted shortly before the line light reached and peeked over the rim of the wall to see. A dark silhouette of a broad-shouldered man was fixing at some cogs and cables of a machine that looked very human-like. A new invention? For what purpose? He kept muttering to himself, thinking out loud how to fix it and soon walked over to the table near me.
