It was now midnight and the Anderson Girls still had yet to leave the spare bedroom. They were now they were talking about one of their more favorite subjects: the superiority of themselves to non-rich people.585Please respect copyright.PENANA9YAfZDoYfh
“Have you seen all of those movies where a kid becomes happy about getting a puppy?” Dory asked. “And we have fourteen dogs!”
“And fifteen parakeets!” Lily said.
“And twelve horses!” Callie said.
“And seventeen cats!” Robbie said.
“Exactly,” Dory said. “A kid always acts like it’s the best thing in the world if they get one pet. Those kids are such schmucks. One pet is never enough.”
“If you aren’t rich, then you’re never going to have enough pets!” Elsie said. “That’s another reason why you’re a flat out loser if you aren’t rich.”
“And how many reasons have we not already said?” Dory asked. “Five hundred?”
The girls all laughed wildly. Molly laughed so hard that her face turned purple.
“Don’t laugh so hard, Molly,” Poppy said. “You might pee yourself again.”
Molly stuck her tongue out at her.
“It sure is great that we’re home schooled,” Callie said. “If we weren’t, than we’d be stuck in a room full of middleclass losers.”
“Ugh, I can’t even imagine,” Dory said.
“I wish that the rich could have one society all for themselves,” Elsie said. “That would be just perfect.”
“Not entirely,” Dory said. “If it were that way, we would have nobody to make fun of.”
“Okay, how about this, what if he had one society all for ourselves, and had poor people in zoos?”
Dory grinned. “Yeah, that would work. It’d be pretty funny to see the Carter family in a cage.”
The girls howled with laughter. Molly laughed so hard that she rolled over backwards. This caused her dress to fall down and slide over her head. The girls all laughed harder as they watched Molly stand up and stumble around the room with her dress hung over her face.
“Oh, damn it, Molly,” Dory said, still laughing. She climbed off of the bed and helped Molly back into her dress. Molly sat back down on the floor with a look of embarrassment on her face.
“Nice underwear, Molly,” Heidi said.
Molly blew a raspberry at her.
When Dory climbed back into the bed, Lily said: “I’m still worried about Daddy.”
“Lily, I already told you,” Dory said. “Daddy will be fine.”
“But what if Carter hurts him? He’s already a psychopath because he’s keeping everybody in the basement. And psychopaths do bizarre things.”
“Daddy is not going to let Carter hurt him. Carter is a shriveled up twig who can’t defend himself for crap. Daddy could beat the piss out of him.”
“Yeah, just like he did to Freeman,” Callie said.
“Even worse than Freeman,” Dory said. “Freeman is…I mean, was much bigger than Carter. Freeman just got his nose broken. Carter would get both his legs broken if he tries to do anything to Daddy.”
“I hope so,” Lily said. She still appeared worried.
“Just think positive, Lily,” Callie said. “Just think about how great it’s going to be once Daddy is freed and we get out of this hellhole.”
“Think about the next time Daddy takes up shopping,” Robbie said. “Think about the new dresses and jewelry that he’s going to buy you.”
“And don’t be like Heidi and call him a murderer,” Elsie said.
Heidi stared at the floor.
“Okay,” Lily said. She still didn’t sound very positive.
"Hey Dory," Robbie asked. "Can we-"
"No, we're not leaving the room yet," Dory said.
The girls all groaned.
"Dory, it's freaking midnight!" Elsie shouted.
"So what?"
"Well, we're getting a little tired of just sitting down on this floor!" Callie shouted. "The only reason you're not tired of being in here is because you get to lay in that bed!
Dory completely ignored Callie and lay back, folding her arms behind her head.
"I'm in the mood for a nap," She said.
The girls all groaned again.
Dory closed her eyes and lay over on her side. However, after a few seconds she leaned up.
"Elsie can you come over here?" She asked.
Elsie stood up very slowly and walked over to the bed. She had a very agitated look on her face.
"What do you want?" Elsie asked.
"Can you sing the song 'My Heart Will Go On?'" Dory asked.
Elsie's agitated expression suddenly changed into a confused expression. All the other girls looked equally confused.
"What?" Elsie asked.
"'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion," Dory said. "Sing it."
"Why?"
"I can't sleep without it."
When Dory was about two years old, her parents had a very hard time getting her to go to sleep. It didn't matter how many bedtime stories they read or many how many lullabies they sang to her. Even past midnight, she would always be wide awake and running excitingly all over their mansion (mainly due to all of the sugary treats that her parents let her eat).
One day, the Andersons were watching the movie, "Titanic," late at night. Dory ran into the living room and leaped onto the couch. As her father grabbed ahold of her and desperately tried to rock her to sleep, the song "My Hear Will Go On" began to play in the movie. Dory suddenly became very calm and started to shut her eyes. Eventually, she had completely fallen asleep, which her parents saw as a miracle.
From that night forth, the Andersons would sing "My Heart Will Go On" to Dory each night and it would cause her to fall asleep. Even as she grew older, the song officially became part of Dory's nighttime schedule and she would not go to sleep without hearing it first. Her parents had no problem with singing or playing the song for her each night (mainly because they always made sure that the girls got everything they wanted). However, Dory's sisters had never even heard of the song or even knew that Dory needed a song sung to her to go to sleep. Needless to say, Elsie was completely lost for words once Dory told her to start singing this song that was unknown to her.
"I don't know that song!" Elsie shouted.
"Sing it," Dory said.
"But I don't know the words!"
"What does the ribbon mean?"
Elsie took a deep breath. She was trying her hardest not to scream.
"Ummm...my heart will go on, my heart will go OOOOOONN," Elsie sang very nervously. "My heart will go ooonnn...."
Elsie was cut off by Dory smacking her in the face. All of the other girls gasped.
"Oww!" Elsie shouted, clutching her cheek, which now had a red mark.
"Those aren't the words!" Dory shouted angrily. "Sing it right!"
"But I don't know the words!" Elsie shouted back, her eyes suddenly filling with tears. "I've never even heard of the song!"
"I don't care," Dory said. "Either sing it right or get hit again even harder. I'm the leader and whatever I say goes. SO SING!"
Finally, Elsie had had enough. She clenched her fists and glared at Dory with absolute rage.
"NO!" Elsie shouted.
"Excuse me?" Dory said in a slightly angered tone of voice.
"I'm not going to sing your stupid song! And you know what? I'm not going to listen to any of your stupid demands anymore! I'm officially done with your crap!"
Dory pointed to the ribbon in her hair.
"What does this mean?" She asked in an infuriated tone of voice.
"Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Having that ribbon in your hair doesn't mean you're the leader! It means absolutely nothing!"
Dory jumped off of the bed and walked up to Elsie. Her face was twisted with anger.
“Say that again” Dory growled.
"That ribbon in your hair means absolutely nothing," Elsie repeated.
"One more time."
“That ribbon in your hair mean absolutely nothing,” Elsie said. “You dirty bitch.”
All of the other girls gasped. Dory looked like she was ready to erupt.
"Oh, and by the way," Elsie said. "Your dress is hideous."
For a brief moment, the room was completely silent. That silence was broken as Dory lunged at Elsie, grabbing her by the front of her dress and pinning her against the wall. Before Elsie could react in any way, Dory slugged her in the face several times. Dory then delivered one final blow to Elsie's stomach and let go of her. Elsie fell to the floor, screaming and bawling loudly.
All of the other girls were horrified by what they just saw. Dory glared at Elsie for a moment and turned to the other girls.
“I AM THE GODDAMN LEADER!!” Dory screamed, pointing at her ribbon. “AND NONE OF YOU FORGET THAT!!”
All of the girls nodded. They were all wide-eyed.
Dory climbed back onto the bed.
"Lily, get over here and rub my feet," Dory said.
Lily turned white. She stood up very slowly and walked over to the bed. She had a terrified look on her face.585Please respect copyright.PENANAbILvJuoEgx
