That fateful night, Marie sat slumped in her armchair.
She couldn’t believe she had spent nearly three years of her life planning everything.
She reached up and pulled her hair loose, her curls falling carelessly around her face.
Darcy’s soft snoring echoed down the empty hall and into the sitting room.
Soft, high-pitched squeaks shifted into her hearing.
“Hush, hush. She may hear you, and it may wake up.”
Warned a hushed voice.
Marie stood up, her hand moving to the decorative dagger above the mantel.
“It even whimpers in its sleep.”
The voice muttered in disgust.
Marie took slow, careful steps down the hall.
Who, or what, on earth could be in her house?
Who were they talking to?
Marie stood in the doorway to her and Darcy’s bedroom.
“Hello?”44Please respect copyright.PENANAInTRdcnVMi
She called quietly.
A silhouette of a head whipped towards her, golden cat eyes piercing into her own.
Pupils dilated quickly followed by a sharp, snake-like hiss.
Nails scraped up the wall, the silhouette fleeing out the window and disappearing into the darkness.
Marie looked down at the glinting dagger in her hand.
It must’ve thought she was going to kill it.
Then again, she thought the same thing.
Marie looked over at Darcy, sprawled out on the bed.
She pressed her lips together, her shoulders going rigid as her fingers tightened around the hilt of her anelace.
The imps must’ve been coming to take her husband back.
Marie chortled at the thought.
“How horrible.”44Please respect copyright.PENANALACGIS6Tlj
She whispered to herself.
“...I do like horrible things, though.”
She admitted, recalling all of the murder mystery novels she had read over the years.
She turned on her heel and strode back into the sitting room, tucking her hair behind her ear.
She eased herself back down into her chair, balancing the blade on her knee.
