The next morning Darcy trudged out of the bedroom looking paler than usual.
Marie glanced up from making breakfast.
“Are you feeling alright, darling?”
Darcy nodded.
“Mhm. Just… tired. Tired and cold.”
He mumbled, throwing himself down in his chair.
Marie chuckled, tossing a plate of eggs into his lap.
“Alright.”
She bent down, pulling the wine bottle out from under the side table.
“I’m sure this will warm you, darling.”
She grinned, holding it up.
“Oh, yes!”
He exclaimed, reaching for the neck of the flask.
“Ah, ah, ah… let me get a glass.”
She hummed, turning back towards the kitchen. 36Please respect copyright.PENANA9xlVznmydp
She reached up, pulling down a wine glass and popping open the bottle.
She reached into the fabric of her skirt, pulling a vile out of her pocket.
She turned it over in her hands, the glass cold and smooth on her fingertips.
After a moment she flicked off the cork with her thumb, pouring the contents into the wine glass along with the wine itself.
She picked up that glass, swirling the liquids together.
She cleared her throat, placing a smile on her face as she stepped back into the sitting room.
“There you go, darling.”
She purred, handing her husband the cup.
Darcy nodded once, bringing the rim of the glass to his lips.
Marie sat down in her own chair to the left of her husband’s, folding her hands into her lap.
Darcy drained the glass, placing it gingerly on the side table.
Marie turned to look at him.
“Better, darling?”36Please respect copyright.PENANAmM3FvCHXxc
Darcy sighed pleasantly, folding his arms behind his head.
“Indeed.”
